The Network for Global Innovation announces the addition of the Parque Tecnológico Itaipu Brazil as the newest member of NGIN

Los Angeles, CA – March, 16 2018 – A LETTER OF AFFILIATION was signed this week by PARQUE TECNOLÓGICO ITAIPU (“PTI”) and the NETWORK FOR GLOBAL INNOVATION (“NGIN”) making PTI the Network for Global Innovation’s newest member. This collaboration covers a wide range of cooperative efforts including NGIN’s assistance with PTI’s clean energy incubator; partnering with PTI to develop NGIN conferences in Brazil, assisting Foz do Iguazu in further developing their world-class clean energy innovation ecosystem, and helping to introduce each other’s start-ups to each other’s respective market.

Ramiro Wahrhaftig, Director Superintendente CEO of PTI stated, “PTI’s joining of the NGIN marks an important component in of our strategy to connect PTI to the world’s other premier innovation centers. PTI is the clean energy technology innovation leader in Brazil and we look forward to becoming a more important part of the global community through NGIN’s network.”

Fred H Walti, President and CEO of NGIN, remarked, “We have been looking to enter the South American region since NGINs inception, but have been carefully looking for the right partner. There’s no doubt that PTI is that partner. PTI’s technology park has a staff of 500+ with a range of facilities including an incubator, numerous clean technology innovation labs and R&D projects, and three universities.”

The signing capped a week of activities hosted by PTI including tours of projects in biogas, organic medicine, sodium battery technology and electric vehicles. A highlight was a private tour of Itaipu Binational, the world’s largest generator of renewable clean energy. It is the world record holder of annual energy production at 103.1 million MWh. Itaipu is a binational undertaking operated by Brazil and Paraguay at the border between the two countries completed in 1984.

The partnership between PTI and NGIN includes membership in the Network for Global Innovation, development of a joint PTI/NGIN International Access Program, participation in periodic NGIN workshops and forums, and the sharing of best practices for incubation and commercialization of sustainable technologies.
